Splash of Color

I've been posting a lot of black and white lately and thought I might need to add a splash of color! I'm really behind on processing my images, and even further behind on organizing and printing them. My goal for the year is to get last years photos published in an album. Some days being so behind on my images makes me not want to take anymore...but the light and the cuteness of my kids lure me out, and so my back log grows.

 

Shutter Love

The past few days have been packed with activities, but I've managed to squeeze in some shutter time.  I'm continuing to improve upon the techniques I learned in the Visualization class I took last week.   Here are a few shots from the last few days.

May - I Clicked It Up A Notch

This month I really clicked it up a notch. First I took advantage of Click In Moms Mother's day special and joined! I also purchased Emma Wood's breakout session on Visualization from Click In Moms. Boy, did it change the way I shoot and edit my b&w! I have fallen in love with them, since gleaning tips on seeing the light and capturing shadows. I've taken so many shots throughout the month that I had a REALLY hard time choosing which was my favorite. I love most all of them.  I'm a sucker for eyelashes, and that is what I love about this photo of my daughter.  Also love the mid-day light streaming in an east window.  I used a black fleece blanket draped over our bookshelves for the background.  Saved me a bit of pp time.   In fact I did so well capturing this shot that the only pp I did was a slight bump on the shadows curve, some sharpening and a bit of vignetting. 

 

Just had to share...

This is the sweetie that I captured her c-sect arrival back in April.  Yesterday I had the opportunity to do a mini session with her.  This was just to precious not to share.

Visualizing Pt 2

Although I think it is great to visualize what you want before you shoot, most times when I'm shooting my children I have to go with the flow.  In reality, "real moments" are what I want to capture and preserve for posterity's sake and why I became a student a photography. 

Here are some real moments from yesterday's shooting.

 So happy to have caught this expression of his!  Several times a day he get's excited like this.  At this moment he had just spotted his daddy driving up the driveway and was about to lunge off the bed, which is why this image isn't as sharp as I'd like.  I lunged for him as he lunged towards the window. 

 My favorite of the day!  Big sis helping little bro.

 My daughters vision of the shoot...she wanted pictures of her "crossing the bridge", which was in reality a tree root across the yard.  Love her imagination and spunk!

Learning to Visualize...

This week I took a mini session by Emma Wood, on visualization and all I can say is that it was worth the $$. I recently discovered Emma Wood's work, and was moved to tears by many of her emotion provoking images. Her site is definitely worth checking out.

Here are a few of the shots I took, after going through her session.

Baby Blue

This morning as I returned home from an urgent trip to the drug store to pick up antibiotic for pink eye, I noticed the sun illuminating a bit of weeds grass in the back corner of our yard. Since my normally cooperative 4 year old was stricken with pink eye and all the older kids were bummed because our plans for the day were canceled, Baby Blue was the only willing subject I could find. By the time I doctored the pink eye and dressed Baby Blue my lighting had changed, but we still captured some of what I had seen.

 

The biggest challenge photographing Baby Blue is that he is on the move constantly, so setting up a shot doesn't work too well, because he is gone before I can pick up the camera. Although, the weeds did keep him occupied for about 30 seconds.

 

 

I just love his long lashes.

 

There are so many things technically wrong with this photo but for some reason I just love the moment I captured and the feel of the photo. A good reminder that every captured moment doesn't have to be technically perfect. Grab your camera and capture the moments in your life.
