Sweet Angel

This little girl has to be one of the sweetest, most beautiful children I've ever photographed.  As she slept she looked like an angel, and when awake those dark eyes just captivated me. What more can I say.

(These photos are a great example of how different light affects your photos.  The two photos with the tan background were done with the overcast natural light, coming through a tinted window, the others were done using a flash bounced off the ceiling.)

Impromptu Shoot

Last week, my youngest daughter, donning a red hat and pink scarf, came running to me begging me to take her picture.  A photographing mother's dream!  Grabbing the camera we headed outside, where I found some nice, soft light hanging around the north side of our home.    She was the perfect little model, although I'm not sure what look she was giving me on that last photo.  I love how dramatic it is and drama she definitely provides.

Not wanting to be left out of the action her older sister came running!  I've been trying to a get a great capture of these two together since before Christmas and every time one of them has been in a less than cooperative mood.  Today I was delighted to have them both cooperating!  One of these will soon be hanging on my wall.

I just can't decide which I like best?  What do you think?

Boys Will Be Boys

A couple of weeks ago I decided to take advantage of the warm light streaming in my bedroom window.  I grabbed up my toddler, handed him in a book and plopped in down in the middle of the bed.   In less than thirty seconds he had looked at the book, slammed it shut, slid off the bed and disappeared.  He is a busy boy!  A few minutes later I heard a clunking noise as he came toddling back, dragging his older brother's toy shot gun.  He proceeded to shove it up on my bed and climb back up for a more boy themed photo shoot.

Capturing The Daily

As a mother I love to take photos of my children, and that is what motivated me to persuade my husband to get me a dslr camera.  At the time I thought having a better camera would = capturing better photos.  I quickly realized that better photos evolved not from owning a better camera, but from actually knowing how to use a better camera.  The more I read and learned about photography in general and that pesky triangle of iso, aperture, and speed, and the more I practiced and applied what I'd been reading the better my photos looked.
I proceeded forward with a goal of capturing beautiful images of my family, so that I could capture the daily, whether it be an escaping toddler, playing with Barbie, lessons on the ipad, a nap in the crib, snuggling on Mommy's bed or reading a book....daily moments and memories preserved.   I now offer my services to you, in capturing your special moments, but I will also be sharing here, with you, the things I have learned and am learning along my journey of capturing the moments in beautiful images.

I'd be delighted to have you join me as I share what I'm working on and learning!
