Autumn Morning

With the radiant autumn sun streaming through my den window, illuminating the brilliant fall colors of fall, I find it very difficult to not stroll through the trees, camera in hand capturing the artistry of the Creator.

Little Things Thursday

Perfection or lack thereof can keep me from the little things, like actually getting in the photo with my children. Last week I set aside the lack of perfection of myself, handing the camera over to another and actually being in some photos, so that my children will have a memory of us playing in the yard, and snuggling and laughing early mornings in the den. Those little things that will someday be a treasured memory.

 

edited to add: I took these photos and wrote this post before photographer Jen Thompson passed last week. I'm not too familiar with Jenn but noticed the tribute on Clickin Moms to her and how she encouraged moms to get in the photos with their family. I was impressed with how God laid this on my heart even before I knew of her losing her battle with cancer.

I Clicked It Up A Notch - September

September was a busy month both in life and photographic opportunities and finally provided me with an opportunity to capture a silhouette.  I've wanted to try this for some time, but finding a treeless, and flat location has proved difficult.  A couple of weeks ago I happened to be with my brother and his daughter at a local airport as the sun was setting.  The open runway provide the perfect flat open area I needed.  I'm looking forward to trying some more silhouettes at this newly discovered location for taking them.

I have longed to take a silhouette image like this...

I never seemed to be able to find a spot flat and treeless enough, but Saturday evening I happened to be in the spot and with my brother and niece.  Awe, success!!!  Here's a couple of others from earlier in the evening. 

Sometimes....

Perfectionism is one of those things I wrestle with...sometimes it pins me into a position where I'd rather not try, than risk failing doing "it" perfect.  Thankfully I've made great strides in overcoming this tendency, and have learned to accept less than perfect.  Sometimes those perfectionist expectations rear their head, as happened last Friday.  On Thursday I had spotted an ideal location for a shoot, and decided to try it with my little ones the next day, as we were in the same area.  The location was great, but the sun was still a bit harsh and my little ones quickly melted in the heat and weeds.  Tired, cranky, uncooperative, but stuck there for an hour while we waited for my oldest to finish a job; so we pressed on and although it wasn't the perfect shots I'd envisioned they are still worth the time and energy it took to coax them out.

 This little angel was enthusiastic as we dressed for the shoot, but her enthusiasm lasted about 2 minutes once we arrived.  By the time my camera was ready to go her enthusiasm had waned.

 She perked up for a few seconds, but quickly

 reverted to this....

that's all they could handle...they were done...little man had, shed his styled shirt and they were leaving with or with out me.
